    Saskatoon Back-to-School Chess Tournament

    We are going to hold a Back-to-School Chess Tournament on Sep.15 2019 (This Sunday) from 10am - 4pm in university of Saskatchewan. Sorry for the late notice, coz we just fixed the room reservation.  Players in all level are welcome, especially new players with no ratings. Don't worry, your kid will have fun during the games.  Please also forward it to any one you think may be interested. 

    This tournament is sponsored by:

           Math & Stats Department of University of Saskatchewan
           Saskatoon Chess Club

    Tournament will be run in 5 round SWISS format.  
    Time control: 25+10 (25 minutes with 10 second increment) 

    In order to make this tournament more competitive, we will separate the players in 2 groups. 
    For rating over 800, you may choose to compete with Saskatoon Chess Club members. The games will be CFC rated. 

    For rating under 800, you will stay in the scholastic group, and the games will be CMA rated. If you want to play up, please let me know, because some students' CMA rating is lower than the real level. We will review the eligibility. Please use below link to check your CMA rating.

    Format

    9 Round Swiss Tournament

    90' / end + 30" increment starting from move one. 
    (Game in 90 minutes + 30s increment from move one.)

    Byes: Up to 3 half point byes available from rounds 1-6. You can specify these at checkout.

    Refund Policy:

    We offer a 100% refund (including ticket fees) before June 12, 2019
    50% refund available until July 10, 2019. 
    You can refund your ticket through the eventbrite ticket vendor, or by emailing us. 

    Sectioning policy:

    Open section: Open to all rated players, but we strongly suggest 
    players rated below 1900 play in lower sections. 

    Lower sections: Your section is based on your current CFC or FIDE rating. 
    You may upgrade your section if your rating changes before the start date. 
    You are not allowed to downgrade your section (to prevent sandbagging).

    Unrated players: First time tournament players should register in the U1600 section. 
    To apply for higher sections, please email us your chess.com or lichess.org username, 
    and type "CO2019" in your profile. 

    US / International players: May use their national rating (e.g. USCF) 
    if no established FIDE or CFC rating is available. A $16 CFC tournament pass is required.


    Withdrawal / Absent Policy:

    Absent players are forfeited one hour after round starts.

    You must tell the arbiter 24 hours in advance if you plan to withdraw mid-tournament, 
    or your next game will be rated as a forfeit.

    Facilitated by Queen City Chess Club, Chess in the Park is a City Square Program running Saturdays from 10am-12pm in Victoria Park. Come take in a game of chess before or after visiting the Regina Farmers' Market! All skill levels welcome!              This is an invitation only tournament and pre-registration is required!

    Please register for this tournament online if you have been invited to the provincial tournament via Online Registration Form. If you have trouble accessing the online registration, please contact us at sschessa@gmail.com.

    Tournament Details:


    • Cost is $25, payable at the door (maximum is $50 per family).   
    • Please check in between 9:45 and 10:15 a.m. so that we can get started by 10:30 a.m.
    • Please see chesssask.blogspot.ca for tournament rules.
    • Playing time is 30 minutes per player (maximum total game time is 60 minutes).
    • Players in grade 3 and above will play with clocks (don’t worry if you have not used a clock before, we will help you out).  
    • Players will play in sections according to grade and will play four to six rounds.  
    • Playoff games will be played if there are ties. 
    • All grade winners will receive a trophy and second and third place will receive medals.  
    • All winners will be invited to join Team Saskatchewan for the National Chess Challenge to be played over the May long weekend in Vancouver, BC.  
    • Our Annual General Meeting will be held during the lunch break. Please consider attending.

    Thank-you for letting us know as soon as possible if you are invited and will be attending the Provincial Chess Challenge. The deadline for the provincial tournament is 8pm Friday, March 29th.

    2019 Saskatoon Regional Chess Qualification

    SSCA is hosting Saskatoon Regional Chess Qualification on March 17,2019 (Sunday). Except the champions of each grade in 2018, players must play in a regional tournament to be qualified for the SK Provincial Chess Championship in Saskatoon, March 31, 2019. This tournament is open to all Saskatchewan players from Kindergarten through grade 12, and New Players are welcome to participate. Please feel free to forward this email to your friends who might be interested to join.

    Please be aware that we will use a side door (Campus Drive / Elders Cr) of the building on Campus drive, please refer to the attached map & picture to locate the small door. There is a 10 min dropping spot in front of the door. 



    Time Control:
    G/30: Each Player has 30 minutes to make all his/her moves.

    Sections:
    •Number of sections will depend on the number of participants
    •Sections will be defined by consideration of grades and CMA ratings.
    •5 rounds minimum for each section.
