Saskatchewan Scholastic Chess Association (SSCA) is a non-profit organization that promotes chess for
kids in Saskatchewan. We mainly do this by hosting tournaments and workshops
for kids.
Despite all the screen entertainment kids have to choose
from today, many kids still enjoy playing chess on a real board with other
kids. However, very few schools have chess clubs and many chess enthusiasts
have difficulty finding other kids to play chess with. One of our goals is to
encourage kids who like to play chess to develop their skills.
Scholastic Chess organizations are found around the world;
SSCA is the official Saskatchewan branch of Scholastic chess in Canada. As a
member of Scholastic Chess we are invited to bring a team to the Canadian Chess Challenge, which is hosted every year over the May long weekend. This
tournament is organized by grade and each province sends one player per grade
(grades 1 – 12).
