Regina Scholastic Chess November Tournament - November 6, 2016

  • open to all players from Kindergarten through grade 12
  • new players welcome
  • you will play 5 - 7 games
  • chess tournament rules apply
  • chess clocks used in upper grades (generally grade 5/6 and up)
  • game time is 30 minutes per player
  • tournament check-in and fee payment starts at 9:45 a.m.
  • tournament starts at 10:00 (ends around 4:30 p.m.)
  • $5 (plus a $5 SSCA membership)
  • ribbons will be awarded 
  • students will be grouped according to skill level
  • high rating players can choose to play in two adult sections ($10 for <1400 section and $20 for >1400 section)
  • Adult Section Registration
  • FREE Pizza Lunch Included!

Regina Kids Chess Club - Fall 2016



 

Regina Scholastic / Kids Chess Club will run from 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm on the following Thursdays:

Sept 22,
Oct 6, 20,
Nov 3, 17,
Dec 1 and 15
 
All meetings are in the cafeteria in the Riddell Centre of the University of Regina (beside the queen city chess club). 
Beginner lessons will be offered and players of all levels are welcome.

Summer Chess Club - Regina

Looking for a place to play some chess this summer?


Join us at the Connaught Library in Regina from 2 - 3:30 pm on the following Tuesdays:
         July 26
         August 2, 9, 16 23, & 30.

  • We meet in the activities room in the basement of Connaught Library.
  • Chess club is FREE and drop-in and for ages 8 and up.
  • Some chess experience is required. However, if you have limited experience, you are welcome to come and watch. We have members of all experience levels and will try to pair you accordingly.

Come fall, chess club will move back to every second Tuesday from 7 - 8:30 pm.

Dates for fall chess club are:
       Sept 20
       Oct 4 & 18
       Nov 1, 15 & 29
       Dec 13

New QCC & SCCA Chess Club


Do you want to improve your chess game?

Would you like a chance to play more chess games with other kids?

The Queen City Chess (QCC) club, along with the SSCA is adding a youth club to the regular QCC’s club night.


What is it?
Every second Thursday, kids are invited to attend the Queen City Chess club (dates below). An experienced QCC chess player will offer a short group lesson from 6:30 to 7:00 pm and then the kids will try out what they have learned by playing matches with each other! Supervision will be available for the kids until 8:30 pm.

Where is it?
University of Regina Food Court in the Dr. William Riddell Centre (note that parking is not free until after 9 pm).

When is it?
Every second Thursday. Dates we will meet in the upcoming months are:
February 25, March 10 & 24, April 7 & 21, May 5 & 19.


Depending on popularity, we may add more dates.

Regina Scholastic Chess Club - Update

Due to room availability, the SSCA kids chess club at Connaught Library has changed some of the dates they are meeting.

The club still meets at Connaught Library Branch from 7-8:30 PM but they will usually meet downstairs in the program room instead of the main library.

The dates below are the new correct dates
Oct 27 - downstairs
Nov 10 - upstairs
Nov 24 - downstairs
Dec 15 - downstairs

This is a free program.
We will supply chess boards.
For now coaching will occasionally be available but we are working hard to get a permanent coach for after Christmas.

Make sure to pass on the new club information to  all your friends who like to play chess!

New Regina SSCA Chess Club

Did you know that Regina is hosting the 2016 National Chess Challenge in May? 
Do you want to brush up on your chess skills, meet some new players and have fun?

There is a new chess club in Regina for students ages 8+ with some chess experience.
Come out every second Tuesday night at Connaught Library Branch from 7-8:30 PM starting on Sept 22, 2015.

Bughouse at Science Rendezvous 2015


Bughouse is fast, furious and a whole lot of fun.
If you play chess and would like to add a little excitement to your game – grab yourself a partner and come to Science Rendezvous to play some bughouse with us!
No cost and there will be Prizes.

Tournament will be run during Science Rendezvous on May 9th.
That’s right – we will have an audience!
We will be located in the hallway of the classroom building.

·      open tournament – no registration fee
·      kids from 4 – 90 are welcome
·      register as a team or a single player (we will find you a partner)
·      your team will play 4  - 8 games
·      there are a few special bughouse rules you need to know
·      game time is 5 minutes per player
·      tournament check-in and warm up starts at 11 am
·      tournament starts at 12 pm
·      If possible please pre-register using this form by noon Friday, May 8.
